Camping Recipe: BBQ Dogs and Slaw

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. mayonnaise 
  • 3 tbsp. whole milk 
  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar 
  • 2 tsp. dijon mustard 
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt 
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper 
  • Black pepper, to taste 
  • 1 carrot, shredded 
  • 1/4 small head savoy cabbage, shredded
  • 1/4 head red cabbage, shredded 
  • 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced 
  • 1/2 c. fresh cilantro, chopped 
  • Vegetable oil, for the grill 
  • 8 brioche hot dog buns 
  • 8 all-beef hot dogs 
  • 1/2 c. barbecue sauce 

Instructions:

  1. Start by washing and drying all of your produce.
  2. Then carefully shred both the cabbages and the carrot. Then, thinly slice the red onion and chopped cilantro.
  3. In a small bowl with together, mayonnaise, milk vinegar, mustard, sugar, salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper until blended.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the carrots, cabbage, red onion, and the sauce for the slaw.
  5. Toss to coat.
  6. Set the slaw in the refrigerator to chill and preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  7. Lightly oil your grill grates, and add the hotdog buns into just toasted.
  8. Set those aside in tin foil to keep warm and add the hotdogs to the grill.
  9. While the hotdogs cook, brush them with barbecue sauce, was until slightly chard and glossy.
  10. Add the hotdogs to your buns, top with barbecue sauce and the slaw and sprinkle with the chopped cilantro.
